  • We talk about characters and elements of fiction that fundamentally changed our perception of said fiction.
  • The Wolverine: A review that is a more better review than most superhero movies we've seen.
  • An Interview with a Photographer: Jessica Sevin talks about how she got into photography, why digital allows up and coming photographers to ply their craft, costume and geek shaming, heavy metal culture, and a whole lot more!

We Play RPGs! Part 1: The Scarlet Riders

You've heard it mentioned in our other episodes, and I've finally gotten around to chopping it up.  We Play RPGs, our sister podcast that involves us playing tabletop RPG games.  The first in our series is the Evernight setting for the Savage Worlds RPG system.  When we conclude this game, we will move on to other games.  You can suggest something for us to play by sending us an email at this address.  In these episodes:

  • We introduce our characters and find out more about the world of Tarth.
  • We meet Lord McGowan, and his manservant, the most uninterested man in the world.
  • We explore the forest, and kill 10 wolves.
  • We learn that Kale has a terrible fear of small spaces, and an even more terrible fear of beachballs with buzzsaw mouths and tiny T-Rex arms (listen and that will make way more sense, trust me).
  • And much more, including ORCS!

Episode 8: APPLEJUICE!

In this episode of We Talk To Ourselves:

  • Video Game Tropes.  Grab your whole chicken and prepare for a stealth mission to Zombieville!  We talk about those annoying things that seem to pop up in every game these days.
  • Upstaging bastards!  Those characters in your favorite media that hog the spotlight from the main characters.
  • Good night sweet prince.  Characters that were cut down in their prime.  Whether for dramatic effect or just plain annoyance, we wax nostalgic on those poor souls who had promise and got the axe in a a way most foul.
  • No wait I wasn-.  Creepy cutoffs often leave the audience wondering what the hell happened in that storyline that was just being played out.  We discuss some of the weirder cutoff storylines in media, including some of the creepy crap Nickelodeon tried to pass off as children's television.
  • From the page to the screen.  An indictment of modern cinema's love of throwing acid in the face of everything we love from books and comics.
  • Outtake!  Chris tells us about how beer is not applejuice!

Episode 6: Gimme Yo Sandwich!

Hour 1

Hour 2

Hello again people of the internet, it's us, We Talk To Ourselves, and we've got another session for you to listen to.  In this episode:

  • Bond, James Bond.  The enduring man of mystery, the original suave superspy.  The guys talk about their favorite Bond movies and books, and also what the character represents.
  • Deadliest Fiction - We actually talk about it this time!  We swear!
  • The guys argue about Superman, both the version from the Man of Steel film and the DC Animated Universe.  They discuss Man of Steel and whether or not it really represents the subject matter, and Phil reviews Superman vs. The Elite.
  • Comics, comics, comics!  Chris and Eli review a few first run titles, and give their opinion of their worthiness.
  • Pseudo-science.  Whether it be nuclear reactors turned nuclear bombs, cosmic rays giving you superpowers, or unobtanium, pseudo-science is very real, even though it's fake.  The guys talk about the impact of this phenomenon on film.
  • And much more random!
Also, a few programming notes.  The format has been shaken up a bit, since I didn't like how the bumper music was working out, so we cut the intermission music and trailer music.  We instead added new stingers by our good friend Ryan Mozal, who has an awesome announcer voice.  Also he does our intermission plugs for the following things:
And on a more frustrating note, there are some random sound issues in this podcast I was unable to edit out. This was due to a hardware error, luckily they aren't distracting enough to ruin the entire podcast, and I'll be working to iron those issues out in the future.  Thanks for your continued patronage.
